The Sultans of the Net secured their 7th victory by defeating Poland 3-1 in the 3rd week match of the Nations League. Melissa Vargas left her mark on the game, while Zehra Güneş, returning from injury, wore the national team jersey for the first time.
The Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team faced Poland at the Asue Arena in Osaka, Japan, during the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL).
FILENIN SULTANLARI WON 3-1
The Sultans of the Net took the first tightly contested set 27-25, taking a 1-0 lead in sets. Poland won the second set 20-25, leveling the match at 1-1. Turkey won the third set 25-19, regaining a 2-1 lead. In the fourth set, the Sultans of the Net defeated their opponent 25-19, winning the match 3-1. The match was officiated by Jiang Liu (China) and Sumie Myoi. The exciting match lasted 125 minutes. With this victory, the Sultans of the Net secured their 7th win in the Nations League.
VARGAS SHINED IN THE MATCH
Scoring 23 points in the match against Poland, she became the top scorer, while Zehra Güneş, returning from injury, wore the national team jersey for the first time.
"VARGAS IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD"
In a post-match interview, Polish National Team player Julia Szczurowska praised Vargas highly. During the interview, she said:
"To be honest, the only thing we feel right now is probably the pain of defeat. But Turkey is one of the best teams in the world, maybe the best right now. We have to respect them greatly for their performance in this match because they played really well. Especially Vargas... In my opinion, she is the best player in the world right now. We couldn't stop her offensive power, and I think that was the main reason we couldn't win the match. It was a really tough match, definitely very challenging. But I enjoyed playing against them because, as I said, we competed against one of the best teams in the world."
SANTARELLI MADE A STATEMENT AFTER THE MATCH
In his post-match statement, Turkish National Team Head Coach Daniele Santarelli said, "I think we put on a really good performance today. We stayed in the game throughout the match. Even when we lost a point, we didn't mentally fall apart. We knew what we needed to do tactically. I think the team is showing improvement. Of course, we need more time together."
THE NEXT OPPONENT OF THE SULTANS OF THE NET IS THE USA
The Sultans of the Net will face the USA on Friday, July 10, in their second match of the third week of the VNL.
