The suspect who allegedly confessed to 42 murders of women in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, has escaped police surveillance. 33-year-old Collins Jumaisi Khalusha escaped by cutting the cell bars and crossing the wall along with 12 other detainees. The incident has surprised authorities. Khalusha was arrested in July in connection with 10 bodies and various body parts found in the Kware area. The police are continuing the investigation and have stated that they will take necessary measures.

Police officials reported on Tuesday that a suspect detained in connection with the discovery of dismembered bodies in the capital of Kenya, who allegedly confessed to killing 42 women, has escaped from a police station.

Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, 33, was being held at a police station after a court granted detectives seven more days to investigate his alleged crimes before charging him.

Mohamed Amin, the head of the Criminal Investigation Department, said in a statement to the Associated Press that Khalusha's escape early Tuesday morning, cutting through the wire mesh in the cells and scaling the perimeter wall, was "unfortunate."

"He was a high-value suspect facing serious charges. We are investigating the incident and will take necessary action," Amin said.

Khalusha was arrested following the discovery of 10 bodies wrapped in plastic bags and various body parts in the Kware area of Nairobi in July.

Police announced that Khalusha confessed to killing 42 women, including his wife. However, Khalusha's lawyer told journalists that his client had been tortured and forced to confess, and maintained his innocence.

Two other suspects, who were found with mobile phones belonging to some of the deceased women, will appear in court again on August 26.
