Gökhan Acar, a football-loving classroom teacher working in Balıkesir, established a sports club in Edremit district in 2023 for the football development of his 11-year-old daughter Aylin Acar. The Edremit Anka Women's Football Club, founded by Gökhan Acar, has managed to include 50 athletes in just 2 years.

"GIRLS HAD TO PLAY FOOTBALL WITH BOYS"

Gökhan Acar stated that girls had to play football with boys because there was no women's football club in Edremit, and he decided to establish a club due to this observed deficiency in the district. Acar said, "I brought my football-loving daughter and her friends together. While playing together, they met other girls who love football. We became a great team. Currently, we are participating in leagues with 50 girls in the under-13, under-15, and under-17 categories," he expressed.

GOAL: 3rd LEAGUE

Acar expressed that they want to participate in the Women's 3rd Football League next season, emphasizing that their main goal is to represent the Edremit Gulf in the Super League.

Explaining that they will make a mark in the future as a women's football club competing in the Super League on behalf of the Edremit Gulf, Acar stated the reason for naming the club "Anka" as follows: "Anka is a creature that represents high ideals. Such a thing does not exist in reality, but we thought the name Anka was suitable for us to realize a legend from scratch. Now, the Edremit Gulf has adopted the name Anka," he explained.

"WE ARE HERE TO INTRODUCE OUR GIRLS TO WOMEN'S FOOTBALL"

Coach Kerem Ergül also stated that the girls of the Edremit Gulf are very talented in football, saying, "We are here to introduce these girls to Turkish women's football. Like the phoenix rising from its ashes, we have also risen from our ashes," he said.

Ergül mentioned that the club will participate in the Turkish Championship in the under-13, under-15, and under-17 categories, stating, "We are aiming for the finals. We believe in this. Our girls are very hardworking, and they are doing everything they can. Our technical team is also very confident in this situation. Everyone trusts each other a lot. There is a very nice atmosphere, first of all. We believe we will succeed." he evaluated.

DREAMS OF NATIONAL TEAM AND ABROAD

Fatma Eda Ediz, one of the players of the Edremit Anka Women's Football Club, shared that she takes her older brother as an example and loves football very much. Fatma Eda, who stated that she preferred football because she found it close to herself, said, "My brother used to play before. I wanted to follow in his footsteps. I want to join the national team. Besides that, maybe I can go abroad. I have a goal to become a very big football player in the future," she said.

Ecrin Mollahasanoğlu also expressed that her dream is to join the national team. Ecrin stated that she wants to play football abroad, saying, "I have been eager for football since my childhood. When I heard that the club was opened, I immediately thought of joining," she said.

Yurdagül Levent also said, "I feel like I am united with football. I release all my stress, my school stress goes away. We are improving our strength," she said. Players Edibe Çelik and Zeynep Kaplan also mentioned that they love playing football very much and want to be successful.
