The traces of the assassination attempt on the hotel where President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stayed in Marmaris during the July 15 coup attempt by FETO are preserved in their original state, even after 10 years. Bullet holes, broken items, bloodstains, and the rooms where the clash took place are left unrepaired to be passed on to future generations, while the memory of the two police officers martyred in the attack is also kept alive.

The traces of the assassination attempt on President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's hotel in Marmaris during the July 15, 2016 coup attempt by FETÖ remain preserved in their original state, even after 10 years.

The hotel management has not undertaken any repairs or renovations in the areas where the treacherous attack occurred, in order to ensure the attack is not forgotten and the events are passed on to future generations.

BULLET MARKS AND BROKEN ITEMS STILL REMAIN

In the room where President Erdoğan stayed, the area where he held meetings, the spaces where security police were present, and the rooms where security forces stayed, bullet holes, shattered items, broken mirrors, and damaged furniture are preserved as they were.

In one of the rooms where the clash occurred, a handcuff belonging to a protection police officer and a bed with bloodstains are still in place, while 18 bullet holes on a couch reveal the intensity of the attack.

The prayer rugs, prayer beads in the mosque section behind the room where President Erdoğan stayed, the scattered documents on the meeting table, and the traces of the clash are also preserved as they were on the night of July 15.

TWO POLICE OFFICERS WERE MARTYRED

In the attack on the night of July 15, President Erdoğan's protection police officer Mehmet Çetin and police officer Nedip Cengiz Eker, who was on duty at the Marmaris Police Department, were martyred.

After the attack, the assassination team that fled into the forested area was captured following 17 days of efforts.

AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCES FOR 31 DEFENDANTS

In the trial held at the Muğla 2nd Heavy Penal Court, 31 defendants, including those who planned and led the assassination attempt, were each sentenced to four counts of aggravated life imprisonment, while other defendants received life and aggravated life sentences.

President Erdoğan's former chief aide Ali Yazıcı was also sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. Efforts to capture the fugitive former captain Burkay Karatepe, who was part of the assassination team, continue.
