According to the claim, attributed to US officials, within the scope of the planned rotation, the Lincoln will be taken in for maintenance, and the Washington will be deployed to the region.

FINAL PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY According to a report by the American Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper, citing U.S. officials, the U.S. military is making final preparations for the USS George Washington aircraft carrier to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been on duty in the Middle East for more than 250 days.
U.S. officials stated that under a previously planned rotation schedule, the USS George Washington would be sent to the Middle East, and the USS Abraham Lincoln would undergo necessary maintenance for a period.
It was noted that the USS George Washington, currently on duty in the Pacific region, is expected to set sail toward the region soon.
USS George Washington IN THE MIDDLE EAST SINCE JANUARY The USS Abraham Lincoln, due to its long deployment exceeding 250 days, had caused debates within the U.S. Congress, with some members expressing concerns about living conditions on the ship.
The USS Abraham Lincoln began a scheduled mission in November 2025 and was directed to the Middle East in January, prior to the U.S. war against Iran.
That carrier first took part in U.S. strikes against Iran and later joined the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports.
