The US announced that it conducted its third air operation in Iran this week, striking approximately 140 military targets in response to an attack on a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM stated that over 300 targets were destroyed over three nights, while Iran retaliated by targeting US bases in Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE. Consecutive explosion sounds were heard in Gulf countries.
The tension between the US and Iran has escalated to a new level. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it carried out a third wave of airstrikes against Iran this week, hitting approximately 140 military targets.
In a statement from CENTCOM, it was noted that the strikes were conducted in response to an attack on a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
OVER 300 TARGETS STRUCK
According to the statement, the strikes targeted missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) bases, naval assets, ammunition depots, communication networks, and coastal surveillance points.
CENTCOM stated that over 300 targets have been hit so far in the three-night operations conducted throughout the week, adding that these operations aim to weaken Iran's capacity to attack civilian and commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The statement noted that commercial ship transits in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for international maritime trade, continue.
IRAN RETALIATES AGAINST US BASES IN THE GULF
Meanwhile, the Fars News Agency, known for its closeness to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, citing Saberin News, claimed that Iran launched numerous missiles at targets in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, and that these missiles successfully hit their targets. The report alleged that explosions were ongoing at US military bases in both countries.
On the other hand, a witness speaking to Reuters reported hearing explosion sounds in Qatar's capital, Doha, while the Qatari government sent security alerts to citizens' mobile phones.
Iran's official news agency IRNA reported that loud explosion sounds were heard in Kuwait, and that the blasts were felt in some areas of Iraq. The report also stated that some media outlets reported multiple explosions occurring in Jordan as well.
