A development that could break the fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran has occurred. The US Central Command announced they have launched a series of powerful attacks against Iran. CENTCOM stated that the attacks were in retaliation for Iran's assaults on three commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it has launched a large-scale military operation against Iran. In the official statement, it was stated that the attacks were carried out in retaliation for Iran targeting three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
"RETALIATION FOR ATTACKS IN HORMUZ"
The statement included the following: "U.S. Central Command forces have begun launching a series of powerful strikes against Iran to impose severe costs for targeting and attacking commercial vessels carrying innocent civilian crews on an international waterway. The U.S. strikes are in response to Iran's attacks on three commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's aggression is an unjustified, dangerous, and clear violation of the ceasefire."
AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE U.S. AND IRAN
Following the agreement reached between Iran and the U.S. on June 14, the parties were expected to negotiate for 60 days on issues such as the lifting of sanctions against Iran, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the nuclear issue.
In this context, talks held in Switzerland on June 21 did not continue due to Israel's ongoing attacks on Lebanon, the U.S. not yet releasing Iran's frozen assets, and disagreements between the parties over the management of the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite the agreement, after intense military clashes around the Strait of Hormuz, delegations from both countries held separate meetings with Qatari officials in Doha on July 1.
