A new step is being taken between Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan will meet in Ankara on Wednesday. During the meeting of the two ministers, it is expected that a visa exemption agreement for citizens of both countries will be signed.
The 3rd meeting of the Turkish-Saudi Coordination Council will be held in Ankara tomorrow.
According to information obtained from sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the 3rd meeting of the Turkish-Saudi Coordination Council will be held in Ankara tomorrow under the co-chairmanship of Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud. The council includes five sub-committees with participation from relevant institutions of both countries: the Political and Diplomatic Committee, the Military and Security Committee, the Culture, Sports, Media and Tourism Committee, the Social Development, Health and Education Committee, and the Trade, Industry, Investment, Infrastructure and Energy Committee.
BOTH COUNTRIES MUTUALLY REMOVE VISAS
On the occasion of the meeting, the signing of the 'Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Mutual Exemption of Holders of Diplomatic and Special Passports from Visa Obligations' is also foreseen.
OPPORTUNITIES TO ADVANCE RELATIONS TO A HIGHER LEVEL WILL BE DISCUSSED
In this context, according to information obtained from ministry sources, the meeting will comprehensively address cooperation opportunities to further advance the developing relations between Turkey and Saudi Arabia in all areas, review the work of the committees within the Turkish-Saudi Coordination Council, highlight that current developments in the region reaffirm the strategic importance of cooperation in the field of connectivity, point out the necessity of strengthening the understanding of regional ownership for establishing lasting security and stability in the region, express that Turkey continues to contribute constructively to ensure that ongoing contacts and talks between the US and Iran result in lasting peace, emphasize the need to prevent developments, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, from leading to new tensions and provocations, highlight the importance of resolutely defending the two-state solution vision in the face of the Netanyahu government's ongoing ceasefire violations in Gaza and unlawful actions in the West Bank, consult on negotiations for the second phase of the Gaza peace agreement and the work of the Peace Council, and stress that the international community must adopt a more deterrent stance against Israel's occupation on Lebanon.
TWO MEETINGS HELD PREVIOUSLY
The council, a cooperation and consultation mechanism established in 2016 under the chairmanship of the foreign ministers to follow all dimensions of relations between the two countries within an institutional framework, held its first meeting on February 7-8, 2017 in Ankara, and its second meeting on May 18, 2025 in Riyadh.
