In the incident that took place in the forests of Maine, 72-year-old Pamela Helmstadter's life was saved by her dog Lucy. The elderly woman, who went hiking with her husband, survived for four nights thanks to her dog's body heat. According to the Washington County police, the incident unfolded as follows: 82-year-old John Helmstadter and his wife Pamela lost their way after straying off the trail. When John fell and could not get up, Pamela set out to find help. However, the woman, who forgot her cell phone at home, also got lost. Sergeant Josh Beal from the Maine Warden Service stated, "Lucy kept her owner warm by lying on her chest every night. Considering that the temperature dropped to -2 degrees, the dog's behavior saved Pamela's life." The situation came to light when neighbors noticed that the package in front of the couple's home had not been picked up and called the police. Search teams found Pamela 200 meters away from her husband's lifeless body. The woman, who suffered from severe hypothermia, was immediately taken to the hospital. While receiving treatment in the hospital, Pamela said she lost hope until she heard the sounds of the search helicopters. Their black Labrador dog Lucy continued to protect her owner until they were found. As the investigation into the incident continues, Lucy's heroism has garnered significant attention on social media.
