The famous figure of French cinema, Gerard Depardieu, is appearing before a judge today in Paris, the capital of France, on charges of sexually assaulting two women on a film set in 2021. The prosecution claims that Depardieu trapped one of the women by squeezing her with his legs and harassed her in front of witnesses. Depardieu, however, denies the allegations.
Known for films such as 'My Friend's Love', 'The Sun Inside Me', and 'France Tour', French cinema's leading actor Gerard Depardieu, who has been accused of harassment by around 20 women, is facing a judge for the first time. The 76-year-old Depardieu is being tried for allegedly sexually harassing two women during a film shoot in 2021, with the first hearing of the case taking place today in Paris, the capital of France.
ALLEGATION OF HARASSMENT ON SET
According to the allegations, the incident occurred during the filming of Jean Becker's Les Volets Verts (Green Shutters). According to prosecution reports, Depardieu trapped one of the women with his legs, preventing her from moving, and touched her waist and breasts in front of witnesses.
POSTPONED DUE TO HEALTH ISSUES
The hearing, originally scheduled for October 2024, was postponed to today due to the actor's health condition. Depardieu's lawyer, Jeremie Assous, stated that the actor would attend the hearing today. The case, which has caused a significant stir in the film industry, is considered an important example of the legal struggle against allegations of sexual harassment and assault in France.
