Content creator Fatma Soydas, arrested due to social media posts, sent a message from prison through her relatives. Stating that she regrets her actions, Soydas said, "You better understand the value of freedom" and requested her release.
Fatma Soydas, who was under investigation due to the content she published on social media platforms, was arrested and sent to prison by the judge on duty at the criminal court of peace. It was learned that legal proceedings were initiated against Soydas on the charge of "publicly insulting the religious values adopted by a segment of the public."
"AM I REGRETFUL? YES"
According to the information obtained by journalist Olgun Kiziltepe, Soydas, who sent a message through her relatives from behind bars, expressed her regret by drawing attention to prison conditions. In her message, Soydas said, "Being captive here is very hard. You better understand the value of freedom."
"I WANT MY RELEASE AND FROM NOW ON..."
Soydas, stating that she regrets what she did, said, "Am I regretful for what I did? Yes... I want my release and I promise that from now on I will live a modest life."
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into social media phenomenon Fatma Soydas. The Chief Prosecutor's Office assessed that the posts made by Soydas on her TikTok and Instagram accounts constituted the crime of "publicly insulting the religious values adopted by a segment of the public" as regulated in Article 216/3 of the Turkish Penal Code. According to the statement made by the Chief Prosecutor's Office, as a result of the investigations conducted, it was determined that the suspect was in Istanbul. Following this determination, an order was given to detain the suspect. In the statement of the Chief Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the investigation procedures were being carried out meticulously.
ACCESS BLOCK TO ACCOUNTS
While a separate decision was also made regarding the social media accounts regarding the posts deemed to constitute a crime, the Ankara 5th Criminal Court of Peace, with its decision dated July 21, 2026, and numbered 2026/8361 D.Is, ordered the blocking of access to Soydas's accounts. In its statement on the subject, the Chief Prosecutor's Office used the following expressions: "An investigation has been initiated by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office because the content of the posts made by the social media user named Fatma Soydas from her TikTok and Instagram accounts under the name 'fffatmaase_' constitutes the crime of 'Publicly Insulting the Religious Values Adopted by a Segment of the Public' as defined in Article 216/3 of the TPC."
SARAL: TURKEY IS NOT A COUNTRY WHERE ENEMIES OF RELIGION CAN RUN WILD
Following the detention decision, Presidential Chief Advisor Oktay Saral reacted to Soydas's posts on his social media account, saying, "The detention decision and the access block imposed on social media accounts are appropriate and timely," and continued his statement as follows: "Let perverted mindsets trying to market insults to our faith with cheap and disgusting content know that Turkey is not a country where enemies of religion can run wild."
