In Arnavutköy, Istanbul, a 12-year-old child was burned by peers pouring cologne on his back. The child, who was treated in hospital for 25 days due to third-degree burns, was re-hospitalized after being discharged and experienced loss of consciousness. Father Kadir Arslan complained, stating that one of the children alleged to have been involved in the incident was given house arrest, while the other was released.

A 12-year-old boy in Arnavutköy, Istanbul, was allegedly burned after his peers poured cologne on his back and set him on fire. The boy, who suffered third-degree burns and received treatment in the hospital for about 25 days, was taken to the hospital again after being discharged and lost consciousness. Father Kadir Arslan said that after the incident, one of the children was placed under house arrest and the other was released, adding that they filed a complaint.

THEY POURED COLOGNE ON HIS BACK AND SET HIM ON FIRE

The incident occurred on Friday, September 18, in the evening hours in the Anadolu neighborhood of Arnavutköy. According to the allegation, 12-year-old B.A. was taken by the other children he was with on the street to a point three streets away. There, one of the children held B.A. while the other poured cologne on his back and set him on fire.

The boy, who sustained burns on his back, was taken to the hospital after the incident. Upon learning of the situation, B.A.'s family and the father of one of the children alleged to have been involved in the incident also went to the hospital.

THIRD-DEGREE BURN DETECTED

Examinations at the hospital determined that a third-degree burn had formed on B.A.'s back. The boy, who received treatment in the hospital for about 25 days, was later discharged.

However, after returning home, B.A.'s pain increased again, and he was taken to the hospital once more. It was learned that the child lost consciousness at the hospital. After what happened, the family applied to police teams and filed a complaint.

"ONE HELD MY CHILD, THE OTHER POURED COLOGNE"

Explaining how the incident happened, father Kadir Arslan stated that the children took his son three streets away from their home and said: "The incident happened on September 18. On Friday evening, I came home from work. My children went out in front of the door. They took my child three streets back. There, one person held my child while the other poured cologne on his back. The first time he couldn't ignite it, the second time it caught fire. He poured a little more cologne. The child's back was fully ablaze. The child leaned against a car to put himself out. Because his T-shirt was nylon, it stuck to his back."

"THEY BROUGHT HIM HOME SAYING HE FELL FROM THE SLIDE"

Arslan, who said that after the incident the other children brought his son home, described what happened with these words: "Those who burned him hurriedly brought the child home. They said, 'He fell from the slide.' They are children too. One is 12, the other is around 13. They had put another long T-shirt on the child. It didn't look like a fall from a slide. When I asked my child, and he said, 'They burned me with cologne,' the children immediately ran away."

Arslan, stating that he called the father of one of the children alleged to have burned his son, said, "He tried to beat his own son, but we didn't allow it. We came to the hospital in his car. We went into the emergency room. They immediately intervened in the burn unit. The child has a third-degree burn."

"HE LOST CONSCIOUSNESS AT THE HOSPITAL"

Father Arslan, providing information about his son's treatment process, said, "We stayed in the hospital for about 25 days. Then, after we were discharged, the child didn't stay at home and we came to the hospital again. The child lost consciousness at the hospital. After that, we notified the security forces. The police took action. They took the children, together with their families."

HOUSE ARREST DECISION FOR ONE CHILD

Speaking about the proceedings carried out after the incident, Arslan claimed that a house arrest decision was issued for one of the children, while the other was released.

Father Arslan said, "They handcuffed one of them. The other was released because his age didn't meet the requirement. I filed a complaint. I will continue to the end. This is peer bullying. Hopefully justice will be served. I am seeking my child's rights."

"EVERYONE SHOULD RECEIVE THEIR PUNISHMENT"

Arslan, stating that he also tried to reach the Ministry of Justice, concluded his words as follows: "I also called the Ministry of Justice's office twice. I am waiting for a response from there as well. I hope our Minister of Justice will also help us. Let everyone receive their punishment. We filed a complaint. After the police teams took the child's statement, they took the statements of the other children. One has his ankle cuffed, under house arrest as a precaution, and the other is free."
