In Firuz Neighborhood of Bursa's Orhaneli district, 55 people, including guests who gathered for a Kurban Bayram visit, were hospitalized on suspicion of poisoning. While the health conditions of the citizens who applied to hospitals with complaints of nausea and vomiting are being monitored, the neighborhood head stated that they suspect the incident was caused by water.
In the Firuz Neighborhood of Orhaneli district in Bursa, an unprecedented mass illness incident occurred during an Eid al-Adha visit. A total of 55 people, including guests who came from out of town for the greetings, were treated at hospitals with complaints of nausea and vomiting. A large-scale investigation has been launched into the incident, suspected to be caused by water contamination.
THEY CAME FOR THE HOLIDAY GREETINGS
The incident occurred this afternoon in Firuz Neighborhood, Orhaneli district. Residents and their relatives who were there for the holiday visit suddenly began experiencing nausea and vomiting. While 55 affected individuals sought care at Orhaneli State Hospital on their own, it was learned that some patients with worsening conditions were referred to various health facilities in central Bursa.
NEIGHBORHOOD POPULATION HAD QUADRUPLED DUE TO THE HOLIDAY
In statements following the unfortunate event, Firuz Neighborhood Muhtar Ramazan Közkurt noted that the situation might have originated from the municipal water supply. Muhtar Közkurt stated:
"A poisoning incident, believed to be caused by water, occurred in our neighborhood. Citizens experiencing nausea and vomiting have applied to hospitals. The exact cause of the poisoning will be clarified after laboratory tests."
Közkurt also stated that under normal circumstances about 100 people reside in the neighborhood, but due to the influx of visitors for Eid al-Adha, the population had risen to 350-400 people.
While the hospitalized citizens continue to receive treatment, health teams and district agriculture directorate officials have taken samples from water sources in the neighborhood and launched an investigation.
