Footage shot at a public beach in the Belek district of Antalya and shared on social media drew widespread public backlash. Two individuals were seen recording women in hijab on the beach without permission, hurling severe insults and profanities at them.
In the footage recorded by an individual identified as Emre Bozkurt, shared from the social media account of Mustafa Bozkurt, citizens on the shore were targeted. The video, which contained harsh remarks about the women's clothing choices, quickly spread across social media and became the focus of reaction.
SAYING "THEY WALK AROUND LIKE NINJAS"...
In the footage, the individual secretly recording the women is seen openly targeting the citizens with statements such as: "The headscarf-wearing ones have flooded this place in Belek. There's no pleasure in watching anymore. 8 out of 10 people came in baggy trousers. Is this Antalya Belek or Arabia? What has Turkey become! You walk around like ninjas. This is a beach, a seaside, after all."
HURLED HATE SPEECH AND PROFANITIES
Continuing his ugly remarks, the individual in the later minutes of the video maintained his severe insults towards hijab-wearing citizens, using the following words: "A man went into the sea with his baggy trousers. The woman, I mean, you'd need a thousand witnesses to call her a woman. I swear my stomach turned. I couldn't even go into the sea. Have these creatures in headscarves come from another world? There's no decency or manners at all. You're doing great harm to tourism. Go to Arabia, for crying out loud. Don't come here. There's no room left to breathe in this country. We come here to clear our heads, and we see people in headscarves."
ACTION IS EXPECTED
Citizens called on security units regarding the footage that sparked outrage on social media, involved breaches of personal data, and fueled hatred and discrimination in public opinion. Judicial authorities are expected to launch an investigation promptly into the individuals who committed insults and verbal harassment.
