In an unusual competition held in India, sleeping turned into a source of income. The 10 contestants selected for the program, to which more than 200,000 people applied, competed with their sleep performances for 60 days. The winner of the competition, Jiniya Chatterjee, won 960,000 Indian rupees, approximately 512,000 Turkish lira, and a sponsored vacation prize.

A competition organized by a company in India was held in a format quite different from usual prize programs. Jiniya Chatterjee, who maintained her sleep routine for two months and succeeded in the assigned tasks, won the grand prize worth 512,000 TL.

200,000 PEOPLE APPLIED, ONLY 10 WERE SELECTED

The India-based company Wakefit organized an unusual competition to promote healthy sleep habits. More than 200,000 people applied to the program where sleeping was rewarded. However, after multi-stage evaluations and one-on-one interviews, only 10 people earned the right to participate in the competition. The selected contestants were asked to sleep regularly for about 60 days, establish a specific nighttime routine, and maintain their sleep quality. The participants' sleep durations and performance were measured with special tracking devices. The daily sleep scores obtained were entered into the ranking table. However, the competition rules were not limited to getting into bed and sleeping. Along with their sleep habits, participants also competed in different tasks measuring their creativity and attention.

THEY DID INTERESTING TASKS TO EARN MONEY WHILE SLEEPING

During the two-month portion of the competition, participants were given different tasks each week. One of these was an event called 'Sleep Cinema'. Contestants reenacted some scenes from popular movies with a sleep theme. In another task, 'Sleep Bingo', participants were asked to observe their own nighttime habits for a week. Thus, contestants had the opportunity to evaluate their daily sleep routines. One of the most remarkable tasks was 'Secret Sleep Operation'. Contestants tried to use the words 'blanket' or 'pillow' 10 times during a normal conversation without letting the other person notice. The contestant who showed the most successful performance in the weekly tasks was given the title 'Professional Sleeper of the Week'. Achievements from these tasks were also influential in the final stage of the competition.

THE FINALISTS PREPARED THEIR OWN BEDROOMS

At the end of the approximately 60-day competition, Jiniya Chatterjee, Ratnagiri Manikandan, and Mehek Khot placed in the top three. Karim Khan, who was the most successful person in the weekly creativity tasks, returned to the competition with a surprise decision. Thus, four contestants made it to the final for the grand prize. In the final called 'Big Bedd', a variety of different tasks awaited the participants. First, in the 'Memory Foam' task, contestants were shown photos of a sample bedroom. Then the finalists were asked to recreate the room they saw based on their memory. In the next stage, the 'Sleep Auction' was held. Contestants bid with their points on elements such as pillows, blankets, air conditioning control, and light and sound settings to prepare their ideal sleep environments. The aim at this stage was for contestants to create the most suitable sleep environment for themselves.

THEY SLEPT ON THE FINAL NIGHT, AND THE WINNER WAS ANNOUNCED

The four contestants who completed the final tasks slept one last time in the bed environments they had prepared. Sleep tracking devices recorded the finalists' performance throughout the night. By comparing the sleep scores obtained on the final night, Jiniya Chatterjee was declared the winner of the competition. Thanks to first place, Chatterjee won 960,000 Indian rupees, equivalent to approximately 512,000 TL, and a sponsored vacation.
