In the Feke district of Adana, women entrepreneurs who started production with state support transformed barren lands first into lavender gardens and then into greenhouses. The women, who began producing lettuce and tomatoes in 500-square-meter greenhouses established with a 50% grant support, stated that they can earn between 500,000 and 600,000 Turkish lira annually per greenhouse depending on production. The project also contributes to the region's agriculture and tourism.

The production mobilization initiated by women entrepreneurs with state support in the Feke district of Adana has become one of the exemplary projects of rural development. Women who received support within the scope of ORKÖY and young farmer projects turned barren lands into lavender gardens and then greenhouses, creating a new source of income.

BARREN LANDS TRANSFORMED INTO PRODUCTION AREAS

Women living in the Paşalı neighborhood of Feke district brought lands that had been unused since 2009 due to water scarcity into lavender production. Later, with the support of the General Directorate of Forestry and Village Relations (ORKÖY), women entrepreneurs turned to greenhouse farming, establishing the first greenhouses in the region and expanding their production network. Producers who grow lettuce in winter and tomatoes in summer also contribute to nature tourism by hosting visitors in their lavender gardens.

GREENHOUSE ESTABLISHED WITH 50 PERCENT GRANT SUPPORT

Female entrepreneur Hilal Köz said her dream of greenhouse farming came true within the scope of the ORKÖY Project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Stating that five people from the village were included in the project, Köz stated that they established their greenhouses with an investment of 400 thousand liras with a 50 percent grant support.

"THE GREENHOUSE EXPANDED ITSELF"

Köz, who explained that she first produced lettuce in her 500 square meter greenhouse, stated that she bought tomato seedlings with the income she obtained. Saying that an annual income of 500 to 600 thousand liras can be obtained from one greenhouse depending on production, Köz expressed that producing is a great happiness for her.

THEY SENT LETTUCE FROM 1000 METERS ALTITUDE TO ÇUKUROVA

Hilal Köz, stating that there are currently five greenhouses in the village, said that interest in production is increasing day by day. Köz, who stated that they sold the lettuces between 35 and 50 liras last year, explained that as the greenhouses in Çukurova were affected by flooding, they sent lettuce from their production at 1000 meters altitude to Çukurova.

TOURISM ALSO REVIVED WITH WOMEN'S EFFORTS

Ayşe Başer, a resident of Paşalı neighborhood, stated that years ago no one believed in this project, and said that today they make a living by producing in the village. Başer expressed that barren lands have been brought into both production and tourism through the efforts of women.
