The Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) has added an area of 15,153 hectares to its oil exploration license area located in Bingöl, Elazığ, and Diyarbakır. The announcement regarding this matter by the General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources was published in the Official Gazette. Accordingly, it was decided to add an area of 15,153 hectares to the 23 oil exploration licenses owned by TPAO within the borders of Bingöl, Elazığ, and Diyarbakır. COUNTRIES DEPENDENT ON TURKISH OIL IMPORTSAccording to the data from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources; as of 2021, the total global crude oil reserve is 244.4 billion tons, with Venezuela holding the largest share at 20% in the distribution of crude oil reserves. According to the production data for 2021, the United States is the largest crude oil producer in the world, accounting for 17% of global production. In Turkey, while 3.58 million tons of crude oil were produced in 2022, 33.49 million tons of crude oil were imported. Based on these figures, it can be concluded that our country is 90% dependent on crude oil imports. As of 2022, Turkey's producible reserve is approximately 70 million tons. In 2022, a total of 421,408 meters of drilling was conducted in our country, resulting in the opening of 191 crude oil wells.
