In the accident in the Akhisar district of Manisa on October 11, in which a TIR truck hit from behind a tour bus that was reversing, 71-year-old Zülfiye Arıcı, who was being treated in intensive care, lost her life. Thus, the number of people who died in the accident rose to 12. Bus driver Mehmet Ahular, who was found at fault in the expert report, and TIR driver Hasan Karakaya were arrested, while the relief driver was released under judicial control.
In the Akhisar district of MANİSA, the death toll rose to 12 in the accident in which a truck crashed into the back of a passenger bus that was reversing. One of the injured, Zülfiye Arıcı (71), lost her life at Manisa City Hospital, where she was receiving treatment.
WHEN HE MISSED THE TURN-OFF, HE REVERSED
The accident occurred on October 11 around 11:00 at the Akhisar Toll Booths location of the Gebze-Orhangazi-İzmir Highway. Mehmet Ahular, the driver of the tour bus with license plate 16 AED 124, which set out to take passengers picked up from Bursa to the hot springs in Denizli, stopped and reversed when he missed the turn-off he was going to take to exit the Akhisar toll booths. Meanwhile, the truck with license plate 78 YE 166, loaded with lumber and driven by Hasan Karakaya, coming from behind, crashed into the bus. In the accident, in which both vehicles overturned onto the median, 11 people died and 26 people were injured. Following the report, numerous medical and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. The injured were taken to the hospital by ambulances and placed under treatment. The bodies of those who died were taken to the morgue.
Meanwhile, security camera footage related to the accident emerged. The footage showed the moments when the driver of the bus that missed the turn-off reversed, the truck coming from behind crashed into the bus, and both vehicles overturned.
EXPERT REPORT: BOTH DRIVERS AT FAULT
Within the scope of the investigation into the accident, the tour bus driver Mehmet Ahular, his relief driver Metin Y., and the truck driver Hasan Karakaya were taken into custody. The expert report on the accident was also prepared. In the report, bus driver Mehmet Ahular was found at fault for the reversing fault specified by regulations and for not complying with the general conditions regulating maneuvers, while truck driver Hasan Karakaya was found at fault on the grounds that he violated speed limits.
TWO DRIVERS ARRESTED
Of the 3 people who were referred to the Akhisar Courthouse and brought before the court after their procedures at the gendarmerie, bus driver Mehmet Ahular and truck driver Hasan Karakaya were arrested, while the bus's relief driver Metin Y. was released under judicial control conditions.
