The area with two graves was damaged, and the suspects fled when noticed. The incident came to light after a person who came to pray in the morning reported the situation. Police teams launched an investigation, while neighborhood residents reacted to the incident and demanded the tomb be protected.
A treasure hunt was conducted by unidentified individuals at the shrine known as "Cough Father" and "Spit Grandmother" among the public in Erzurum. The incident sparked great outrage in the neighborhood.
THEY DUG AT NIGHT
The incident occurred around 00:30 on Karskapı Street, Rabia Ana Neighborhood, Yakutiye district. According to claims, suspects who came to the shrine, which is visited by those with cough ailments seeking healing, dug in the area containing two graves. When residents of the opposite apartment noticed the situation, the suspects quickly fled the scene.
DISCOVERED IN THE MORNING
In the morning, a woman who came to the shrine to pray noticed that the graves had been dug and reported the situation to the neighborhood residents. Upon the report, police teams were dispatched to the scene.
“THIS PLACE IS IMPORTANT TO US”
Mehmet Yaşar Akar, one of the neighborhood residents, reacted to the events, saying, “We were near the shrine in the morning. An auntie who came to pray noticed that the grave had been dug. They had removed the stones. It was said that 5-6 people were seen at night and they fled. We don't know if they were looking for treasure. This place is important to us, it needs to be protected.”
SUSPECTS BEING SOUGHT
As police teams conducted an examination at the shrine, they initiated efforts to apprehend the suspects believed to have carried out the treasure hunt.
