US President Trump claimed that they would quickly bring Cuba under control, while asserting that even the approach of a US warship returning from Iran to the shore would lead to "surrender."
US President Donald Trump made striking remarks about Cuba during a speech at an event in Florida. Trump claimed that the island nation would soon come under US control, saying, "Cuba is a place we will take over very soon."
"WE STAND 100 METERS OFF, THEY SURRENDER"
In his speech, Trump also touched on military planning after the Iran war, stating they could deploy an aircraft carrier to the region. Citing the USS Abraham Lincoln as an example, Trump said, "We will bring one of our big ships, maybe the world's largest, the USS Abraham Lincoln, back from Iran."
Trump argued that merely positioning the ship off the coast of Cuba would be sufficient, saying, "We stand 100 meters off, and they say 'we surrender'." The US President also reiterated his claim with the words, "I like to finish things."
NEW SANCTIONS DECISION AGAINST CUBA
Meanwhile, Trump signed an executive order targeting individuals and entities linked to Cuba with new sanctions. The decision was stated to be taken on the grounds of protecting US national security and foreign policy interests.
