U.S. President Donald Trump declared a national day of mourning following the death of Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of Catholics, at the age of 88.
ORDER TO LOWER FLAGS TO HALF-MAST
Expressing his deep respect for Pope Francis, Trump instructed that flags at all public buildings in the U.S. and abroad be flown at half-mast until sunset on the day of Pope Francis's funeral, based on the authority granted to him by the U.S. Constitution and laws.
WILL BE APPLICABLE IN ALL PUBLIC BUILDINGS
Stating that this would be done as a token of respect for Pope Francis's memory, President Trump announced that he had also instructed that flags be flown at half-mast not only at the White House but also at all public buildings, federal lands, military bases, and naval stations, as well as at all U.S. embassies, consulates, and diplomatic missions abroad.
