The Israeli front was greatly shaken by US President Donald Trump's green light to Turkey for the sale of F-35 fighter jets at the NATO Summit in Ankara. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, upon the strengthening possibility of the sale, hastily issued a statement urging the Washington administration, "Don't sell."
During the historic NATO Summit in Ankara, US President Trump, who met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, gave positive messages regarding the lifting of CAATSA sanctions and F-35 procurement, prompting Israel to take action. Shortly after the possibility of the sale seriously came to the table, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared before cameras, making claims targeting Turkey and calling on the US to reconsider its decision.
"IT WOULD DESTROY THE POWER BALANCE IN THE MIDDLE EAST"
Claiming that delivering F-35s to Turkey would jeopardize regional security, Netanyahu alleged that Turkey has "aggressive ambitions." Arguing that the sale should not go through, the Israeli Prime Minister stated in his remarks:
"Selling F-35s would destroy the power balance in the Middle East, because I believe Turkey has aggressive ambitions. They say they want to revive the Ottoman Empire. If I were in their shoes, I wouldn't sell."
APPEALED TO THE WEST THROUGH GREECE AND CYPRUS
In his statement, Netanyahu also tried to address the Western world and other alliance members, continuing his arguments with these words:
"It threatens Greece, a NATO ally. It occupies half of Cyprus, another NATO country. And most importantly, it threatens to destroy my country, the one and only Jewish state."
