US President Trump announced the start of an operation described as an 'economic D-Day', involving the cessation of oil trade and financial channels against Iran. Trump also threatened countries that would support Iran, saying there would be 'very severe economic consequences'.
US President Donald Trump said countries that provide economic or financial support to Iran will face "very severe economic consequences." Announcing that he has launched "the most severe economic operation ever applied to any country" against Iran, Trump demanded the cessation of oil trade, money transfers, and financial channels Iran uses to bypass sanctions.
HE WILL DO WITH THE ECONOMY WHAT HE COULDN'T WITH RIFLES AND GUNS
US President Donald Trump announced in a statement on his Truth Social account that he will increase economic pressure on Iran. Trump stated that other countries doing business with Iran or providing economic support to the country could also face sanctions, but he did not reveal the details of the measures to be implemented.
"AN UNPRECEDENTED ECONOMIC WAR"
In his statement, Trump said the following:
"No one has given the Islamic Republic of Iran a greater opportunity to make a deal with me than I have. Unfortunately, they failed to seize that opportunity. Therefore, today I am announcing that I have launched the most overwhelming economic operation ever applied to any country. This will be an economic war and isolation on an unprecedented scale. Their navies are destroyed, their air forces are annihilated, their military facilities are reduced to rubble, their currency is worthless, and their country is hanging by a thread.
"YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE"
Today, I am also announcing that any country that allows financial institutions, companies, airports, or public agencies to provide any kind of lifeline to Iran will itself face very severe economic consequences. Economic consequences. Oil smuggling, oil swaps, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange offices, ship registries, shell companies... All of these must stop now. You know who you are.
"IT WILL BE AN ECONOMIC D-DAY"
This will be an economic D-Day, and we need all our allies to stand with the United States to isolate and defeat the Iranian threat. These threat elements are cornered, and these historic measures will paralyze them and their ability to spread terror worldwide. Iran will never have a nuclear weapon."
STATEMENT CAME AFTER THE 60-DAY CEASEFIRE
Trump's statement came after the 60-day ceasefire, which was reached in June during the conflicts between the US, Israel, and Iran, expired this week.
The Washington administration had expanded sanctions targeting Iran's revenue sources under the "Operation Economic Fury," launched in April. The program aims to subject foreign banks and companies doing business with Tehran to sanctions and to block Iran's exports.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also said last week that Iran would face unprecedented economic isolation.
