US President Donald Trump announced that damages to ships and their cargoes attacked in the Strait of Hormuz will be covered from frozen Iranian assets held by the US. Reacting to Trump's decision, Iran's Foreign Minister warned that seizing another country's assets would set a dangerous precedent and could lead to chaos in the international order.

US President Donald Trump announced a striking decision regarding attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing tension with Iran. In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump declared that damages suffered by ships attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, along with their cargo and all related elements, would be covered from frozen Iranian assets under US control.

Trump stated that the measure would remain in effect until a new announcement is made to the contrary, adding, "These damages could reach very large amounts, but I believe this is a fair and equitable approach."

IRAN'S "DANGEROUS PRECEDENT" REACTION

Iran responded swiftly to Trump's statement. Iran's Foreign Minister, in a post on his X account, stated that normalizing the seizure of state assets would leave no country's assets secure.

The Iranian minister expressed that seizing another country's assets to cover potential future damages with no direct connection would constitute a "provocative and dangerous precedent."

In his statement, the Iranian Foreign Minister warned that this approach could have serious consequences for the international order, saying, "If the seizure of state assets becomes normalized, no one's assets will be safe anymore. The chaos that this would create will be neither pleasant nor peaceful."

TENSION ESCALATES TO A NEW DIMENSION

Trump's announcement regarding the use of frozen Iranian assets, along with Tehran's harsh response, indicated that the confrontation between the US and Iran has deepened not only in the military sphere but also in the economic and legal domains.
