REMARKABLE STATEMENT ON CUBA
Stating that they want to help the Cuban people, Trump claimed that Cubans are requesting support from the US. Trump said, "It's kind of in a state of collapse. As soon as we finish our business with the Islamic Republic of Iran, we will deal with this. I like to do one job at a time. We'll take a short break on the way back." Trump also said that new sanctions targeting Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel will be effective.
US SANCTIONS ON CUBAN LEADERSHIP
The US Department of Treasury announced that Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, his wife Lis Cuesta Peraza, his stepson, and two relatives of former Cuban President Raul Castro were added to the sanctions list.
According to the department's statement, Alejandro Castro Espin and Raul Alejandro Castro Calis were also among those sanctioned. Thus, a total of five people were included in the sanctions scope.
INSTITUTIONS ALSO ADDED TO THE LIST
The US administration added not only individuals but also some Cuban institutions to the sanctions list. The Cuban Ministry of Defense, the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Amistur Cuba, and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution were among the sanctioned organizations. The statement noted that the assets of the sanctioned individuals and organizations in the US have been frozen.
