Following the decision of the terrorist organization PKK to disband and lay down arms, the second phase of the Terror-Free Turkey process has begun. While attention is focused on legal regulations regarding the Terror-Free Turkey process, Tuncer Bakırhan, Co-Chair of the DEM Party, was directly asked, "Do they want autonomy?" Bakırhan responded, "If we wanted autonomy, we would ask for it openly. It is not because we are afraid or trying to hide it."

After the terrorist organization PKK announced that it would disband and lay down its arms, a new process began in Turkey. Following the terrorist organization's decision to lay down arms, claims of 'constitutional amendments' are now being discussed in the corridors. Regarding the process and the current situation, Tuncer Bakırhan, Co-Chair of the DEM Party, answered the curious questions on tv100.

Evaluating the PKK's decision to lay down arms, Bakırhan used striking expressions about whether the DEM Party demanded a change in the definition of citizenship and regarding autonomy.

HE EMPHASIZED SOCIAL PEACE

Emphasizing social peace, Bakırhan stated, "The era has changed, powers in the Middle East are changing, new alliances are emerging. Some regional powers in Lebanon have lost their strength. It is no longer the era of conflicts and wars. The sectarian regimes in the Middle East are being eliminated one by one. As the Middle East changes, we cannot say that the developments in the Middle East do not affect us, just as the Berlin Wall affected Tamil in Sri Lanka. The era is changing; democratization, acceptance of differences, and living together is the greatest security. Turkey's greatest security is not the weapons and military power it possesses, but the social peace it has established internally. A country where conflict has ended will be the greatest power in the region." he said.

"NOT ALL 85 MILLION ARE TURKISH"

In response to the question, "Does the DEM Party demand a change in the definition of citizenship in the Constitution?" Bakırhan said, "Not all 85 million living in Turkey are Turkish. We are all citizens of the Republic of Turkey. Our grandfathers' blood is in Çanakkale. The sweat of our grandfathers is on every stone of this country. This geography belongs to all of us, and we have been living together in this geography for centuries. Therefore, forcing everyone into a single identity is one of the fundamental problems. A definition that encompasses all differences would certainly be good."

IS THERE A QUESTION MARK REGARDING TURKEY'S UNITARY STRUCTURE?

In response to the question, "Is it true that after the process of laying down arms, the PKK will continue to fight against Turkey?" Bakırhan replied:

"There is absolutely no such situation. If such a perception is being created, the peoples of Turkey should not believe it. We are talking about people who genuinely and realistically demand democracy for the geography of Turkey. We all read the congress decisions together. Is there really a point or question mark that implies anything other than living together in Turkey regarding Turkey's unitary structure?"

LOZAN DISCUSSIONS

Regarding the Lausanne discussions, Bakırhan stated, "A call for a common homeland is being made. Those who make the call for a common homeland accept the existing borders. Someone who calls the borders drawn by Lausanne a common homeland, what part of Lausanne are they discussing, and what part of Turkey are they dividing?"

It is necessary not to prolong the process of laying down arms. Prolonging the process may lead to some provocations, sabotages, and the involvement of those who view the situation negatively in a different way. This process needs to be brought to a conclusion without prolonging it.

STRIKING RESPONSE TO THE AUTONOMY QUESTION

In response to the question regarding autonomy discussions, Bakırhan said, "Why are they not asking us, who are the parties involved in this? If we wanted autonomy, we would ask for it openly. We are not afraid or hiding; we are saying let there be local democracy."
