The incident occurred on November 23 at Rumeli Hisarı in Sarıyer. Ayşe Can lost her balance and fell into the sea. Seeing his sister fall, Velat Can jumped into the water as well. The two siblings quickly disappeared from sight due to strong winds and waves. Upon notification, the Coast Guard, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Search and Rescue (İBB İSAK), and the marine police began search operations. However, no trace of the two siblings was found in all underwater and surface searches conducted. The operations, coordinated by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Çanakkale Provincial Directorate, involve support from the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE), the Coast Guard West Marmara Group Command, the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, the Provincial Police Department, the Marine Police Training Center, the Marine Air Base Command, the Forest Regional Directorate, the Provincial Special Administration Search and Rescue, and the AKUT Search and Rescue Association teams, providing support from both air and land. It was stated that the teams would progress by scanning the coastline from east to west.
