In Gaziantep, an armed person who took a taxi driver hostage with his girlfriend opened fire on police teams and resisted for a long time. The chase that started in the Araban district ended at the entrance to the city center, and the incident was captured on citizens' mobile phone cameras.

THEY TOOK THE TAXI DRIVER HOSTAGE AND FLED

The incident occurred in the Araban district in the afternoon. According to allegations, Semih Ç. (31) and his alleged girlfriend Gülbahar Y. (36) took a commercial taxi driver hostage with a gun and fled in the vehicle. Acting on reports from nearby citizens, police teams launched efforts to stop the suspect starting from the Araban district.

OPENED FIRE ON POLICE WITH A PUMP-ACTION SHOTGUN

The suspect continued to flee, ignoring the police's 'stop' warning. The chase, which began in the Araban district, ended at the city entrance of Gaziantep's Şehitkamil district. There, the suspect confronted police teams and opened fire on them from inside the commercial taxi using a pump-action shotgun.

THEY WERE FINALLY CAPTURED

As a result of a careful operation by police teams, Semih Ç. and Gülbahar Y. were caught, while the hostage taxi driver Ramazan Y. (58) was rescued with a minor injury to his finger. The suspects were taken into custody and brought to the police station for processing.

Meanwhile, the chase and clash that began in the Araban district and ended at the Gaziantep city entrance were recorded second by second on mobile phone cameras by citizens in the vicinity. The footage includes moments when the suspect opened fire on police from inside the commercial vehicle, police firing into the air, and the fearful moments of citizens caught in the middle of the crossfire with their vehicles.
