The United Nations (UN) General Assembly accepted a resolution allowing Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, whose visa was revoked by the US, to participate in the upcoming session via video conference, with 145 votes in favor, in the vote titled "Participation of the State of Palestine in the 80th session."
The UN General Assembly put to vote the resolution allowing Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to participate in the 80th General Assembly Meeting session to be held next week in New York City, USA.
ACCEPTED WITH 145 VOTES
In the vote titled "Participation of the State of Palestine in the 80th session," which involved 156 countries, 145 countries voted in favor of Abbas's participation, while 5 countries voted against, and 6 countries abstained. As a result of the voting, the resolution allowing President Abbas to participate in the meeting via video conference was accepted.
Among the countries that voted against Abbas's participation were the USA, Israel, Palau, Paraguay, and Nauru. Albania, Fiji, Hungary, North Macedonia, Panama, and Papua New Guinea abstained from voting.

THE USA HAD REVOKED MAHMOUD ABBAS'S VISA
The voting decision was made after the US government announced that Abbas and the accompanying 80 Palestinian officials would not be allowed to come to New York. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated last month that visas would not be issued to Abbas and Palestinian officials to enter the USA.
