Update - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul Down At Close

Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped by 1.92% to close at 83,675.33 points on Wednesday.



Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 85,041.93 points and lost 1,634.25 points from Tuesday's close of 85,309.58 points.



The benchmark index hovered between 83,799.30 and 85,580.29 points during Wednesday's trading.



The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 552.7 billion Turkish liras ($91.5 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 5.16 billion Turkish liras ($847.8 million).



On the third transaction day of the week, 10 stocks on the index were on the rise, 84 were on the decline, and six were flat compared to the previous close.



The top listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lender Garanti and petrochemical company Tupras.



The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and mining company Koza Anadolu.



Shares of prominent sports club Fenerbahce were the top gainers -- up 3.68% -- and energy company Isiklar's shares dropped the most, 8.57%.



In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,278.00 by market close, up from $1,273.00 the previous day.



The price of Brent crude oil was around $71.10 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Wednesday.
