Visa-free travel to Montenegro has officially ended

01.11.2026 15:11

Montenegro has ended its visa-free travel regime for Turkish citizens as of today. With the decision taken within the scope of harmonization with European Union policies, a valid Schengen or Montenegrin visa has become mandatory for Turkish citizens holding burgundy passports upon entry to the country. Turkish Airlines (THY) also warned passengers and asked them to check current visa and entry conditions before travel.

The new decision taken by Montenegro within the scope of its alignment process with European Union (EU) policies has entered into force. With the regulation, the practice allowing Turkish citizens to travel to Montenegro without a visa has ended.

Previously, citizens of the Republic of Turkey could stay in Montenegro without a visa for up to 30 days. However, as of November 1, 2026, a visa requirement will be applied to burgundy passport holders upon entry into the country.

It was stated that the decision taken by Montenegro also covers citizens of Belarus, China, Russia and Saudi Arabia, as well as Turkey.

VISA WARNING FROM THY

Turkish Airlines also issued an information notice for passengers who will travel to Montenegro.

The following statements were included in THY's announcement:

"Attention to our passengers traveling to Montenegro: as of November 1, 2026, Turkish citizens traveling to Montenegro must have a valid Schengen or Montenegrin visa. Different visa requirements and entry conditions may apply to citizens of other countries. Before your trip, you can check the current entry conditions regarding your passport type and the visa requirements applicable to you on Montenegro's official website"

CHECK ENTRY CONDITIONS BEFORE TRAVEL

With the new practice, Turkish citizens holding burgundy passports who plan to travel to Montenegro will be required to have a valid visa. In order for passengers not to experience any inconvenience, it is important that they check the current visa and entry conditions according to their passport types before traveling.
