While 8 more people were detained in the investigation, the suspects’ correspondence “We’re going to make a lot of money” was added to the file.
A new operation was carried out in the investigation in Istanbul into allegations that millions of liras in unfair profits were obtained by manipulating live betting data for sports competitions. O.B., who worked as a data analyst at a company named Spordata, was alleged to have delayed live bets by 7 seconds and, through his partners, had bets placed on competitions whose results were already known. While money movements of 192 million lira were identified in the accounts of the suspect, who was arrested in July, 8 more people were detained.
12 MILLION LIRAS IN DAMAGE WITH A 7-SECOND DELAY
In the investigation coordinated by the Bureau of Illegal Betting and Sports Crimes of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Spordata, which provides data infrastructure to legal betting companies, was placed under scrutiny.
In the examinations, it was determined that company employee O.B. opened live bets for various competitions, especially tennis and volleyball, with a 7-second delay. It was alleged that the suspect had people for whom he opened accounts on betting sites place bets after the score was known, and that by this method he caused Spordata and the companies it served to suffer a total of 12 million lira in damage.
192 MILLION LIRA PASSED THROUGH HIS ACCOUNTS
In the MASAK report prepared about O.B., who was caught and arrested on July 21, 2026, remarkable findings were reached.
It was determined that there was a total of 192 million lira in money inflows and outflows in the suspect's bank accounts and that he carried out high-value transfers.
8 MORE SUSPECTS DETAINED
With the expansion of the investigation, 8 more people assessed to have acted together with O.B. were identified. In a simultaneous operation conducted on October 23 by teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate, all of the suspects were detained.
"WE'RE GOING TO MAKE SOME SERIOUS MONEY"
The WhatsApp correspondence included in the investigation file also drew attention. It was determined that the suspect asked the people he was in contact with to open accounts on legal betting sites.
In one of the correspondences, the suspect was seen saying, "We're going to make some serious money," while the other person replied, "If it's something illegal, don't get me involved."
