Nejat Yazıcı, 30, living in the Gebze district of Kocaeli, gave his bank accounts to people he met on social media with the promise of e-commerce. After the accounts were used in fraud, 97 cases were filed against Yazıcı, and he spent approximately 30 months in prison. Yazıcı, who said that he and his family spent approximately 4 million liras to cover the victims' losses, warned young people, saying, 'I got burned, don't let anyone else get burned.'

In Gebze, a young man who let third parties use his bank accounts to pay off his debts not only failed to receive the payment he expected but also found himself facing dozens of lawsuits. His family also had to take out loans to cover the victims’ losses.

THE “E-COMMERCE” OFFER THAT CAME FROM SOCIAL MEDIA

According to the allegation, Nejat Yazıcı accepted the offer in 2022 after people he met on social media wanted to use his bank accounts with the promise of e-commerce. Yazıcı, who said he accepted the offer because he had debts, handed over his accounts to these people in person in Istanbul.

When he did not receive the promised payment, Yazıcı went to bank branches and had his accounts closed. Later, when he wanted to withdraw his disability pension in Gebze, he learned that his account had been blocked as part of a fraud investigation. It was learned that Yazıcı retired on disability after a work accident he had suffered.

“THEY DEFRAUDED DOZENS OF PEOPLE IN 17 DAYS”

Describing the process he went through, Yazıcı said:

“While I was looking at job ads, I came across an ad. These individuals said they were engaged in e-commerce. I talked with them for a few days. On July 1, 2022, because I had a lot of debt, I had to accept this job. I handed over my accounts to these individuals in person in Istanbul. Afterwards, they told me they would pay me, but no payment was made. On July 22, I went and had my accounts closed by going to the banks one by one. I was going to withdraw my pension, but they did not allow me to withdraw it. I learned that there was a block on my account. My accounts were used in a fraud act. I also filed a criminal complaint against these individuals. Then, over time, lawsuits began to be filed against me. I constantly went to the police station and gave statements. I was giving 10 statements a day. These individuals defrauded dozens of people within 17 days.”

97 LAWSUITS, 30 MONTHS IN PRISON

Yazıcı, stating that there were 97 lawsuits against him, expressed that in some of them the trial had not yet started and in others it was ongoing. According to information provided by Yazıcı, of the 17 concluded files, 11 were reversed at the execution stage, and 6 resulted in dismissal.

Yazıcı, saying he stayed in prison for about 30 months, said, “I went on leave by benefiting from the law. I had a sentence of nearly 45 years; it was reduced to 17 years. I want my remaining sentences to be reduced as well. I am asking the state authorities for help on this matter.”

“I GOT BURNED, LET NO ONE ELSE GET BURNED”

Yazıcı, stating that he suffered a loss of approximately 4 million lira in the process, continued as follows:

“I covered all the victims’ losses with my family’s support. My sister took out a loan, my father took out a loan. There were lawyer payments. I am very victimized. I do not want to go to prison again. I lost my job. I also warn citizens and young people; they should absolutely not share their accounts or IBANs with third parties. I got burned, let no one else get burned.”

FATHER: I PAID THE VICTIMS’ DEBTS ACROSS TURKEY

Father Bülent Yazıcı described that the family suffered great financial hardship during his son’s process. Stating that his son stayed in prison for nearly 3 years, father Yazıcı said, “He got into debt through social media; I had no knowledge. He was working, he had a good job too. Whether he fell into the hands of loan sharks or betting gangs, he gave 3-5 of his cards. As soon as I heard, I went to the prosecutor’s office and applied. One day the gendarmerie took my child.”

“LAWYERS ASKED FOR 1.5 MILLION LIRA”

Bülent Yazıcı, relaying that lawyers told him, “If you do not pay this money, he will receive a sentence of nearly 100-150 years,” said, “I went to hire a lawyer; they asked for 1 million, 1.5 million lira. Right now I am changing lawyers for the second time. My son has nearly 100 files. I paid the victims’ debts across Turkey. We became victims; we lost our jobs. Five days a week I went to courthouses as his guardian.”

Father Yazıcı, stating that the family got into great debt, used the following expressions: “We have a lot of debt; what are we going to do from now on? Why are they not catching these gangs? Will people always be victims? Will homes be burned? We want a solution to be found for these grievances.”
