As air temperatures dropped in eastern Turkey, snowfall was effective in Erzurum, Ardahan, Kars and Tunceli. While historical structures in Erzurum were covered in white, some highways in Ardahan were covered with snow. As the first snow of the season fell in Sarıkamış and Pülümür, children went out into the streets, played snowballs and made snowmen. Authorities warned drivers against the danger of icing.
Snowfall that started in high areas of Eastern Anatolia reached settlements in the following hours. With the precipitation making its effect felt in four provinces, winter scenes formed in city centers, while warnings were issued against the risk of icing that could adversely affect transportation in some areas.
HISTORICAL STRUCTURES IN ERZURUM COVERED WITH SNOW
In Erzurum, the downpour that was effective during the day gave way to snow and fog in high areas as the air temperature dropped. The snow, which intensified in the evening hours, also became effective in the city center.
As the historical structures and streets in the city were covered in white, citizens going up to Palandöken Ski Resort took photos under the snowfall.
SNOW WAS EFFECTIVE ON HIGHWAYS IN ARDAHAN
In Ardahan, precipitation concentrated especially in high-altitude areas also made its effect felt on the Ardahan-Şavşat and Damal-Posof-Türkgözü highways.
While a snow cover formed in the highlands of Sulakyurt village, traffic signs along the roadside were also covered with snow.
Authorities asked drivers to be cautious against icing that could occur as temperatures drop in the evening hours.
FIRST SNOW JOY IN SARIKAMIŞ
In Kars, snowfall that continued throughout the day in high areas reached the city center in the evening. The first snow of the season also fell in the Sarıkamış district.
District residents, who cleared the snow accumulated in front of their houses and on their vehicles, wished for the precipitation to continue throughout the winter.
Zeki Gök, one of the residents, said, "Our snowfall has started, thank God. Snow fell on the mountains yesterday and on the city center today. I hope we have a plentiful and fruitful season; may it be auspicious for Sarıkamış."
Erkan Seçilir said, "It snowed in the city center today. I hope if it continues like this, it will cover everywhere by morning."
IN TUNCELİ, THE DOWNPOUR TURNED TO SNOW
After the warnings of the 13th Regional Directorate of Meteorology, heavy rain began throughout Tunceli in the morning hours.
The rain, which continued throughout the day in Pülümür district, was replaced by snow as temperatures dropped. With the first snow of the season falling, the district center was covered in white.
