With the discounts made in November, security risks in e-commerce are reaching alarming levels.

The Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) stated that a series of measures can be taken during the campaign periods, which are held under various names every November and where online shopping is predominantly concentrated, to prevent possible fraud cases. Citizens should pay attention to the following points to avoid becoming victims of fraud in online shopping:

PAY ATTENTION TO THE LINK ADDRESS!

It should be verified whether the campaign messages and notifications come from the original source, and the accuracy of the link address of the website where shopping will be made should be ensured.

It should be checked whether the website where shopping will be made has a 3D secure payment method and an SSL certificate, and the informative texts regarding the processing of personal data should be reviewed.

SECURITY TIPS

Instead of using physical card information during payment, virtual card information should be preferred. Transactions should be carried out through personal devices whenever possible, and passwords and codes should be updated against suspicious transactions.

Emails that are not guaranteed to be secure should not be opened, and care should be taken against fake links and fake discounts, so one should not rush while making transactions. If information unrelated to the transactions is requested, one should be inquisitive.
