As the selling wave deepened on Borsa Istanbul, the BIST 100 index fell below 11,000 points, hitting its lowest level since December 5, 2025. The index, which lost 2.62 percent in the first half of the day, will have declined for six consecutive weeks for the first time since 2008 if it also ends the week lower. The Central Bank's 100 basis point interest rate cut also failed to stop the selling pressure in the market.
At Borsa Istanbul, selling pressure increased its effect on the last trading day of the week. While the BIST 100 index fell below the 11,000-point level seen as a psychological threshold, the weekly decline series that investors closely follow also faced the risk of extending to a sixth week.
BIST 100 INDEX FALLS BELOW 11,000 POINTS
The BIST 100 index, which started the day with selling pressure, declined by more than 2% during the day to as low as 10,963 points.
In the first half of the day, losses deepened. The index fell 2.62% to 10,926.54 points, testing its lowest level since December 5, 2025.
A FIRST IN 18 YEARS MAY OCCUR
If the decline in the stock market is also reflected in the weekly close, a striking picture will emerge.
If the BIST 100 index finishes the week in negative territory, it will experience its sixth consecutive weekly loss. Thus, a weekly losing streak of a length not seen since February 2008 will have occurred.
However, for this record to be confirmed, the weekly close needs to be awaited.
THE CENTRAL BANK'S RATE CUT DID NOT STOP THE DECLINE
The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye's (CBRT) cutting the policy rate by 100 basis points to 36% on October 22 also did not change the negative outlook in the stock market.
Despite the rate cut, which was expected to reduce financing costs and support company valuations, sales continuing in the BIST 100 index drew attention.
REGULATION ON INVESTMENT FUNDS PASSES PARLIAMENT
While volatility in the markets continued, another development concerning the capital markets took place in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
The bill accepted at the General Assembly also included regulations concerning some investment funds decided to be liquidated.
The regulation in question contains new provisions regarding the liquidation processes of investment funds.
