A new decision has been made in the election and judicial process that has been ongoing for months for the Vice Mayor of Yüreğir Municipality. The court suspended the execution of the last vice mayor election, which CHP's Cafer Boyraz won by a 2-vote difference. Following the decision, AK Party's candidate Tarık Özünal became the Vice Mayor.

An important development has occurred in the ongoing legal process regarding the deputy mayor election in Yüreğir Municipality. The Adana 2nd Administrative Court issued a stay of execution regarding the deputy mayor election held on July 31, which was won by CHP member Cafer Boyraz. Following the court's decision, the AK Party's candidate Tarık Özünal became the Deputy Mayor of Yüreğir.

BOYRAZ WON THE ELECTION BY A 2-VOTE MARGIN

After Yüreğir Mayor Ali Demirçalı was suspended from duty, a deputy mayor election was held in the municipal council.

In the election held on July 31, CHP council member Cafer Boyraz was elected as deputy mayor, surpassing the Cumhur Alliance's candidate Tarık Özünal by a 2-vote margin. Following the election, Özünal applied to the court, arguing that the voting was conducted unlawfully.

OBJECTION TO THE INCLUSION OF THE SUSPENDED MAYOR IN THE MEMBER COUNT

In his petition, Tarık Özünal stated that the suspended Ali Demirçalı was evaluated as if he were present during the voting and included in the total number of municipal council members, arguing this was against legal regulations.

Özünal also claimed that individuals who were not council members entered the meeting hall and interfered with the meeting. He alleged that the chaos during the fourth round of voting caused council members to vote under pressure.

In the defense submitted to the court on behalf of the Yüreğir Municipality, it was stated that the fourth round of voting was in compliance with legislation and law.

Yüreğir Municipality Court Decision

COURT STAYED THE EXECUTION

After evaluating the defenses of the parties, the Adana 2nd Administrative Court ruled that there was unlawfulness in the election process subject to the lawsuit.

In its decision, the court considered that due to the ongoing objections to the election, the activities of the municipality's decision-making bodies could be affected, disruptions in the provision of services could occur, and irreparable damages might arise. For these reasons, it was unanimously decided to stay the execution of the process regarding the deputy mayor election without requiring a guarantee.

TARIK ÖZÜNAL BECAME DEPUTY MAYOR

Following the court's decision to stay the execution regarding the election won by CHP member Cafer Boyraz, the AK Party's candidate Tarık Özünal became the Deputy Mayor of Yüreğir.

An appeal against the court decision can be made to the Adana Regional Administrative Court within 7 days from the day following the notification date.

ALİ DEMİRÇALI HAD BEEN SUSPENDED FROM DUTY

Yüreğir Mayor Ali Demirçalı was suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior after being sentenced to 5 years, 3 months, and 10 days in prison for the crime of "giving bribes" in the case he was tried for.

The deputy mayor election process, which began with Demirçalı's suspension from duty, continued with objections and court decisions.
