Concrete pieces falling from a building that has begun demolition as part of urban transformation in Avcılar entered a house through a window of the adjacent building. Firefighters announced that the apartment needed to be evacuated as the demolition posed a risk to the neighboring building. After 11 people were evacuated from the building, the demolition continued in a controlled manner.
The concrete pieces from the upper floor of the 4-story building, which began to be demolished as part of the urban transformation in Avcılar, fell with the intervention of the construction machinery. During the work, residents of the adjacent building were evacuated for 4 hours due to the risks posed by the demolition.
CONCRETE PIECES ENTERED FROM THE ADJACENT BUILDING
The 4-story building located on Cumhuriyet Street in Ambarlı Neighborhood was included in the urban transformation scope and a demolition decision was made. In the morning hours yesterday, a concrete piece fell and got stuck during the demolition work. At that moment, concrete pieces also entered a house through the window of the adjacent building.
ADJACENT BUILDING EVACUATED DUE TO RISK
Due to the risk of the concrete block sliding and hitting the adjacent building, the demolition work was halted and the 112 Emergency Call Center was informed. In a short time, firefighters, health personnel, police, Avcılar Municipality, İGDAŞ, and the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) arrived at the scene. A cordon was drawn around the building for safety measures. An expert was called from the Avcılar Municipality Urban Planning and Zoning Department to assess the situation. After the engineer assessed the condition of the block, he stated that it posed a risk to the adjacent building.
11 PEOPLE EVACUATED
The fire brigade requested those in the building to temporarily evacuate their homes using the ambulance's megaphone. Police and fire brigade teams entered the building and evacuated 11 people, including children and the elderly. After this, the demolition continued in a controlled manner. After the carefully conducted work, the risk-causing piece was brought down to the demolition area late at night. While the street, which was closed to traffic throughout the day, was reopened, families who had been evacuated returned to their homes.
