Imane Moti, who was arrested and is being tried in custody upon the complaint of Osman Vesek, who revealed through hidden camera footage that his wife was abusing their 1-year-old daughter, appeared before the judge. Moti, who claims to have only hit her child once, rejected the footage, stating, "My psychology has deteriorated. I made a mistake. I accept my crime. I miss the smell of my daughter."

In Antalya, Imane Moti, who was tried in detention upon the complaint of Osman Vesek, who revealed that his wife was abusing their 1-year-old daughter with hidden camera footage, stated that she only hit her child once, saying, "My psychology is disturbed. I made a mistake. I accept my crime. I miss the smell of my daughter," and requested her release.

Osman Vesek, who married Moroccan national Imane Moti in 2023, had a daughter from this marriage last year. When Vesek noticed bruises on his daughter's body, he asked his wife, who responded that the child fell often because she had just started walking. Concerned for some time due to warnings from his surroundings and the bruises on his daughter's body, Osman Vesek installed a hidden camera in the house. After watching the footage, Vesek saw that his daughter was subjected to violence by her mother. With the footage in hand, Osman Vesek filed a criminal complaint against his wife. After the complaint, Moti was detained and arrested by the on-duty judge after her procedures.

FIRST TIME IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE

Detained defendant Imane Moti appeared before the judge for the first time at the 34th Criminal Court of First Instance on charges of 'mistreatment of a descendant and simple injury.' In her defense, Moti said, "My psychology is disturbed. I am very sorry for hitting my daughter. I want another chance. I want to state that I hit my child for the first time. It is true that while sitting, my child held onto my leg and fell from the top of the sofa. I don't know how I did such a thing. I realized it when I watched the footage. I had never hit my child before."

DENIED THE FOOTAGE, SAID "I HIT ONCE"

Imane Moti answered 'Yes' to the court president's question, "Is it true that you were doing makeup while the child was crying?" In response to the question about holding the child by the throat and throwing her onto the sofa while she was crying, the defendant said, "I only hit once." As the court president listed the assaults one after another, the defendant stated, "I am very sorry, I hit once."

THREW THE CHILD ONTO THE SOFA BEFORE

Complainant Osman Vesek stated that his wife neglected their daughter, saying, "I was warned several times by my family. My wife and child stayed in Morocco for about 6 months. During this time, my wife's family was also warning me. My child was only 4 months old when a verbal argument occurred between the defendant and me while my child was being fed in my mother's lap. During the argument, the defendant grabbed the child by the leg and threw her harshly onto the sofa from my mother's lap. The child fell hard to the ground. After that, I immediately called 112. We went to the hospital after the ambulance. Later, the defendant tried to blame my mother and me for the incident. In fact, for this reason, my mother and I went to the police station and gave statements," he said.

MY FAMILY WARNED ME ABOUT VIOLENCE

Vesek said, "The defendant's father said he wanted to take his daughter to Morocco for three months. However, I stated that my child would stay here. Nevertheless, he took my wife and child to Morocco, saying, 'Nothing will happen in 3 months, I will take care of them.' During this process, my wife and child stayed in Morocco for 6 months. I had constant video calls with my child. During the calls, I noticed that my child was coughing. After insisting that they return, they came back in the 6th month. Two days after they returned, I took my child to the hospital in Konya. The child was diagnosed with pneumonia, and we stayed in the hospital for 10 days. After the hospital process, we stayed in Konya with my family for 5 days. During this time, my family warned me again. My mother told me that the defendant wanted to hit the child with a slipper when he got angry, but he couldn't do it while my family was around," he said.

"I INSTALLED A CAMERA SYSTEM AT HOME"

Osman Vesek stated that he decided to install a camera in the house when he realized that his wife was prone to violence, saying, "After all these incidents, I installed a camera system in the house where we lived together in Antalya. While my wife and child were in Konya, I organized the house. During the approximately two-week period, I monitored the camera recordings. Based on what I watched, I filed a complaint against the defendant. I learned that he even hit the child while she was in the stroller. A neighbor warned me, saying that my wife hit the child outside. I expressed that I was following the situation."

"I WANT HER TO BE PUNISHED"

Vesek, who thought his child was being abused before installing the camera, stated, "Before installing the camera, I was seeing bruises and redness in various places on my child's body. My wife explained this situation as 'a mosquito bite' or 'she fell herself.' For all these reasons, I am complaining about the defendant. I request that a necessary investigation be conducted and that she be punished."

NEIGHBOR'S VIOLENCE ALLEGATION

Witness D. G., who claimed to have seen Imane Moti abusing the child, said, "I saw the defendant, who is our neighbor, slap the child several times while she was in the stroller outside and shout. I was across the street walking with my child. Then I called her husband and explained the situation."

"I DO NOT ACCEPT THESE ALLEGATIONS"

Defendant Imane Moti, who denied the allegations, said, "This woman is slandering me. I do not know this woman at all. I have never slapped my child outside. I always speak Turkish with my child. I do not accept these allegations. I love my daughter very much. My husband told me, 'Take your child and get lost.' I called my father, we could not find a middle ground. I took my daughter and went to Morocco for 6 months. I made a mistake. I accept my crime. I miss the smell of my daughter. I want to be with her."

MENTAL HEALTH REPORT REQUESTED

The court panel requested a report to determine whether the defendant's mental health was intact and postponed the hearing.

"THE CHILD'S PSYCHOLOGY IS NOT GOOD"

In a statement after the hearing, Osman Vesek said, "My child's psychology is not good right now. I observe that she wakes up from sleep in fear at night, screams frequently, sometimes hits herself, pulls and tears her hair. I will apply to the necessary institutions regarding my child's psychological condition and will follow her situation more closely. The child is staying in Konya with my mother. In court, despite the existence of footage regarding the allegations, the defendant stated that she did not commit these acts, and if she did, she did not remember. She said she was sorry and sad. However, her attitude and behavior are not convincing."

"I REQUESTED A CHANGE IN THE CRIME QUALIFICATION, IT WAS REJECTED"

Complainant's lawyer Onurcan Eroğlu stated, "It is established that the baby is sick due to having been subjected to extremely bad treatment and is under care at Konya Children's Hospital. We made a request to the court regarding this matter. We requested that the records there be brought, but the court rejected it. There is a Forensic Medicine report in the file. According to this Forensic Medicine report, multiple injury findings in the baby were evaluated as 'simple injuries.' However, we stated that these injuries are not of a simple nature and requested a re-examination from the forensic medicine institution. The court also rejected this request. We expressed to the court that the acts of violence were committed with the intent to kill and that she should be tried for attempted murder.

However, the court rejected our appeal, considering the extent of the injury in light of the prosecutor's opinion, as it believed that the crime of attempted murder did not occur. We also requested a pedagogical examination, but the court also denied this request.
