The "Supercell" that has been affecting the capital Ankara has negatively impacted daily life.
CITIZENS SOUGHT SHELTER IN INDOOR AREAS
As the thunderstorm began in the evening and gradually intensified, citizens in Batıkent, who experienced difficult moments, sought shelter in bus stops and indoor areas.
ROADS TURNED INTO PONDS
Due to the downpour, puddles formed on the roads. Municipal teams started working to drain the water from the streets. Traffic teams warned drivers along the route.
YAVAŞ: OUR CITIZENS MUST BE CAREFUL
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated in a post on his social media account, "According to meteorological data, a very strong rain cell will enter our city within the next 30 minutes. Strong winds, storms, hail, and heavy rain are expected. Citizens must be careful during this time period, especially coinciding with the end of the workday. Our teams at Ankara Metropolitan Municipality are on alert."
SUPER CELL STORM CLOUDS
In supercell storms, the speed and direction of the wind change with altitude. As a result, a strong upward warm air current is formed, which is called a mesocyclone. Cold air creates a downward air current.
Tornadoes usually form within mesocyclones. However, this does not mean that every mesocyclone will produce a tornado. These storms, which can sometimes have dangerous consequences, can lead to tornadoes, hail the size of golf balls, downward air bursts, or heavy rainfall. Supercell storms typically lose their intensity within a few hours.
