The additional customs duty on passenger cars imported from countries outside the scope of the EU and Turkey's Free Trade Agreement will come into effect tomorrow. The new regulation will lead to price increases of up to 500,000 lira for some cars. Here are those models...
In a decision that closely concerns those looking to buy a car, an additional tax of up to 25% will be applied on top of the existing 10% customs duty. Additionally, fixed extra taxes ranging from a minimum of 6,000 to 8,500 dollars will also come into effect, depending on the type of vehicle.
INCREASE OF 500 THOUSAND LIRA IN VEHICLES
The additional tax rates to be applied according to the new regulation are as follows:
Conventional (ICE) and Hybrid (HEV): +25% (at least 6,000 dollars)
Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): +30% (at least 7,000 dollars)
Fully Electric (BEV): +30% (at least 8,500 dollars)
This tax increase, especially for high-priced models, significantly raises the final sale price.
BRANDS ARE SEEKING SOLUTIONS
While some car distributors plan to shift vehicle supply to European countries to reduce the burden of additional taxes, it is reported that some brands are considering covering part of the tax difference from their own profits to maintain competitiveness.
WHICH BRANDS AND MODELS WILL SEE PRICE INCREASES?
According to NTV's report, Japanese car brands will be most affected by the new tax regulation. Here are the models expected to see price increases:
Honda
Toyota
Imported models other than locally produced Corolla and CH-R will see price increases:
- Corolla Cross
- RAV4
- Land Cruiser Prado
Nissan
- X-Trail
- Subaru
- Forester
- Crosstrek
Lexus
All models on sale will be affected by the additional tax:
PRICE INCREASE MAY REACH UP TO 540 THOUSAND LIRA
The impact of the tax change is not limited to the additional customs duty. For example, when an additional tax of 250 thousand lira is added to a car with a tax base of 1 million lira, an 80% Special Consumption Tax (SCT) and a 20% Value Added Tax (VAT) are calculated on top of that. Therefore, the total price increase can reach up to 540 thousand lira.
