DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan, who shared calculations regarding the necessary increase in the minimum wage, stated, "There should be at least a 50% increase. The minimum wage should not fall below 33,000 lira."
DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan, in a live broadcast program he attended, shared his calculations regarding the increase that should be made to the minimum wage while evaluating the current agenda.
Babacan reminded that there has been no increase in the minimum wage for a year, emphasizing that due to both the differences from last year and this year's inflation data, the minimum wage has seriously eroded.
"CITIZENS ARE ENTITLED TO 15% FROM LAST YEAR" Babacan stated: "The minimum wage has not changed for a year. There was no interim increase in July. Because there was no interim increase in July, this gap has widened. What needs to be done? First, the increase given at the beginning of the year was based on the expected inflation. However, it should have been based on the actual inflation. Therefore, our citizens already have a right to a 15% increase from last year. In other words, they have receivables from last year, 15%... The actual inflation was around 45%.
The expected inflation was 30, and there was a 15-point difference in between. The omission in July is separate. That also created a separate right. Therefore, the 30% increase made at the beginning of last year was given as 30, even though the inflation was 45. It was said, 'The inflation for next year is 30, and we are giving that.' However, the minimum wage had eroded by 45%. Therefore, our citizens have a receivable of 15% from last year, one. Secondly, when we look at this year's inflation, even the 30% inflation reported by TÜİK is 30. Other calculations show higher rates.
"AT LEAST A 50% INCREASE IS REQUIRED" Now, last year they will receive 15. This year's inflation is 30. It is not expected; the actual inflation that people feel this year is 45. And they say, 'There will be growth.' They say, 'We are growing.' We say that not only those with money should benefit from growth, but also fixed-income earners. Since the country is growing, we say to add 5% from there. It totals to 50%. However, this 50% is the minimum. The hunger threshold is already 29 thousand... This hunger threshold will exceed 30 thousand in November-December. When you increase 22 thousand 104 by 50%, this figure becomes 33 thousand 156 TL. We say that there should be at least a 50% increase."
