The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, addressed those gathered in front of the CHP Headquarters in Ankara after the attack he experienced. Özel stated, "I do not attribute the attack we faced today to any political party, any political view, or any opponent. From now on, we will continue to stand together with the same determination."
DEM Party Istanbul Deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder was bid farewell on his last journey today. A ceremony was held for Önder this morning at the Atatürk Cultural Center.
AN ATTACK WAS CARRIED OUT ON ÖZGÜR ÖZEL
However, the ceremony was overshadowed by an attack. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, while leaving the AKM, was attacked by an individual. It was revealed that the individual had previously killed his children and received a life sentence, and was conditionally released in 2020.
Reactions poured in against the attack on Özel. Many politicians, including President Erdoğan, condemned the attack and conveyed their wishes for Özel's recovery.
HE SPOKE IN ANKARA
After the attack, Özel, who attended Önder's funeral prayer in Levent, spoke at his party's Provincial Building in Istanbul. Later in the evening, addressing those gathered in front of the CHP Headquarters in Ankara, Özel stated, "Some wanted to leave our outstretched hand hanging in the air, to undermine our need and determination to serve the nation and walk into the future together. Since that day, we have stood together against all the oppressions, all the evils, and all the attacks on our party."
"I DO NOT ATTRIBUTE THE ATTACK TO ANY POLITICAL PARTY"
Özel also said, "From now on, we will remain united with the same determination. I do not attribute today's attack to any political party, any political view, or any rival. However, I do not see today's attack as independent from the process we are in; from the oppression faced by Ekrem President and our friends, and the conspiracy against our country through our party. From here on, everyone should get their act together. The Republican People's Party is not a party that will pursue political gain from such a provocation or take the easy way out."
