CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made a statement regarding the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25. In a statement on his social media account, Özel said that if they come to power, they will reinstate the Istanbul Convention.
In his post, Özel stated: "In order for women to live safely and freely; a strong system must be built to prevent violence with deterrent regulations. Doing this is a political choice.
If some are kept safe in this country while millions, especially women, are left unprotected, this situation is the result of political choices.
When we come to power with the nation's approval, we will reinstate the Istanbul Convention and courageously take the necessary steps to combat violence against women."
