The Co-Chair of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), Tülay Hatimoğulları, made a statement regarding the agenda at the party's group meeting.

STRIKING WORDS FROM HATİMOĞULLARI OF THE DEM PARTY

While the process initiated by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's message of "Terror-Free Turkey" continues, a striking statement came from Hatimoğulları today. Hatimoğulları said, "Unfortunately, since Öcalan's call, we are faced with a much more discouraging picture in Turkey in terms of democracy, let alone a positive step being taken."

Highlights from the statements made by DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları are as follows: "The historical call was not just a text. The call was made for the 85 million citizens living in Turkey to live in a fair, democratic society. However, as long as the government ignores the spirit of this call and does not fulfill its requirements, the path to democratization in the country cannot be opened. If we recall the recent events where this blockage erupted; one is the operation against the HDK and urban reconciliation, the other is the March 19 process.

REACTION TO POLICE VIOLENCE IN PROTESTS

Since March 19, the voice of the Turkish people has not been an ordinary reaction; it was not just for the freedom of one individual. These reactions emerged to demand a free life. Young people and students are shouting in unison: 'This country is ours.' We send our greetings and love to the resisting youth. The government, on the other hand, is increasing its pressures by ignoring the rising voices. They are torturing students in the middle of the street. They rewarded each of the police officers who hit those young people with 10,000 TL. Internal peace cannot be achieved by rewarding torture; on the contrary, it causes harm.

CALL FOR PROJECT SCHOOLS

In addition to all this, the government continues its pressure policies in the field of education. The purges carried out against teachers working in project schools for political reasons clearly constitute an operation. Here, we call out to the Minister of National Education: Teacher appointments, administrative assignments, and transfers must be transparent, auditable, and based on merit. These purges targeting teachers are an attack not only on teachers but also on scientific education and Turkey's democratic future. Immediately cease these practices. We stand with the teachers resisting against this blatant unlawfulness and the students standing by them.

REACTION TO SYRIA

Hatimoğulları also stated the following regarding the events in Syria under the HTS administration: "In Syria, peoples and beliefs are being excluded. A temporary government has been established, a 5-year transitional constitution has been prepared; however, within these structures, Kurds, Alevis, and other belief groups are not included. Policies of massacre and violence against Alevis continue. The peoples of the Middle East are tired of denial, oppression, and violence policies. This region now wants peace. It demands a democratic transformation. Oppressive regimes have two options: Either they will heed the demands of the peoples, or they will continue to struggle with crises. Without establishing democracy and internal peace, external interventions cannot be prevented."
