In relation to the incident where a 60-year-old woman in Izmir died after eating kumpir, a lawsuit has been filed against the business owner for "causing death by negligence," with a penalty of up to 15 years, and for "trading in spoiled or altered food," with a penalty of up to 5 years.
On December 38, Servet Polat (60), his daughter Bahar Zeyrek, and his grandson Gökhan Zeyrek (11) ate kumpir at a business located in the Efeler neighborhood of Buca district in İzmir. The family, who fell ill due to vomiting and diarrhea, went to Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Training and Research Hospital. Following the discovery of Servet Polat's body at home at 04:00 on December 30, the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation. The owner of the business, N.D., who was taken into custody as part of the investigation, was arrested by the court on charges of "manslaughter by negligence." It was learned that four individuals who reported feeling unwell after eating kumpir from N.D.'s establishment also went to the police station to file complaints after their treatment at the hospital.
SALMONELLA FOUND IN KUMPIR
In the report obtained from the 1st Specialization Board of the Forensic Medicine Institution as part of the investigation initiated after the incident, it was stated that when the macroscopic and histopathological examinations of Polat's internal organs were evaluated together with the manner of death, it was determined that the death occurred as a result of food poisoning. The examination and analysis report from the İzmir Food Control Laboratory Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry revealed that Salmonella bacteria were found in the kumpir sample taken.
UP TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON SOUGHT
Based on the statements taken and the evidence collected, a case was filed against the business owner N.D. for "causing death by negligence" with a request for up to 15 years in prison and for "trading in spoiled or altered food" with a request for up to 5 years in prison.
