Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi in Istanbul. After the meeting, which addressed regional and bilateral issues, the two ministers held a press conference.
MINISTER FIDAN: WE ARE AGAINST MILITARY INTERVENTION IN IRAN
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made the following statements at the press conference; "Iran's stability is important for both us and the region. We are against any military intervention in Iran. We are against military intervention as a solution to problems. We do not believe that it will solve the issues. Problems should be resolved through negotiation and diplomacy. We call on the US and Iran to come to the negotiating table. As Turkey, we are ready to do our best for peace. There should be no external intervention in Iran's internal affairs, and we are closely monitoring developments."
ARAKCHI: IRAN IS READY FOR ALL NEGOTIATION PROCESSES
Following Minister Fidan, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi responded to President Erdoğan's call made today, stating, "We agree with Turkey. We talked about conflicts and destructive developments in the region. The entry of one country into war will create a threat of war throughout the region. We are on the side of protecting Iran's national interests and regional interests. We will not bow to threats. Iran is ready for all negotiation processes. Iran is ready to sit at the table regarding nuclear issues. We have always argued that nuclear negotiations should be peaceful. We are ready to start negotiations if they are fair and based on mutual respect.
"WE ARE GRATEFUL TO TURKEY FOR ITS EFFORTS"
The US is not showing goodwill; Iran is ready for negotiations. We are in favor of negotiations to establish peace among regional countries and to reduce conflict. We discussed issues regarding Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. We are in favor of Syria's territorial integrity. We want Syria's stability and unity. We want the Zionist regime to end. We want the genocide in Gaza to stop as soon as possible and for humanitarian aid to reach. We are grateful to Turkey for its efforts in this regard. The wishes of the Iraqi people should also be taken into account. We congratulate for a fair election. We are against any bullying that would violate the sovereignty of this country. National security should be ensured among all groups regarding Lebanon. We support the outcome of this dialogue," he said.
QUESTIONS FROM THE PRESS WERE ANSWERED
"How do you evaluate America's statements and threats?"
Minister Arakchi: The US is speaking inconsistently. Military attack is not an option. They tried this last time, but they did not achieve their goals. On one hand, they threaten, while on the other hand, they talk about negotiation. The US government has repeatedly requested negotiations through different intermediaries. Iran has no problem regarding negotiations. However, negotiations cannot start with threats. If negotiations are conducted with a fair approach, Iran will never abandon dialogue.
"Mr. Minister, what messages are you conveying to capitals within the framework of Turkey's mediation role?"
Minister Fidan: The extinguishing of regional wars and, if possible, the prevention of new conflicts. This is our stance on all regional issues.
"What are your views on the EU's designation of the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization?"
Minister Arakchi: I can only say this. Strategic mistakes of Europe. I am saddened by this. Unfortunately, the EU has become an institution heading towards decline; it has lost its role. It cannot even fully see its own interests. They do not appreciate the value of what is done for them. The Revolutionary Guards have saved the world from a very large terrorist organization. I hope they will realize their mistake soon.
WHAT DID PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN SAY?
President Erdoğan spoke on the phone with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. During the conversation, while discussing Turkey-Iran bilateral relations and the escalating military tension in the region, Erdoğan conveyed the message that "Turkey is ready to take on a facilitative role between Iran and the US."
