The suspect in the assassination of Republican activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed during a speech at an event in the U.S., has been apprehended. The 22-year-old suspect was found near the crime scene with a sliding shotgun and three unspent cartridges, which had notable writings on them.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the suspect in the assassination of Republican activist Charlie Kirk, who lost his life during an event at Utah Valley University, has been captured.
CHARLIE KIRK'S KILLER CAPTURED
In statements to the U.S.-based Fox News channel, Trump said, "We have very likely (arrested the person who killed Kirk). Everyone did a great job." Trump noted that the suspect was reached due to a tip from a pastor, stating, "Someone very close to him reported him."
"I HOPE HE GETS THE DEATH PENALTY"
Trump expressed that he received the news just 5 minutes before it went on air and stated that the suspect's family also played a role in his arrest. He mentioned that it is not known at this stage who might be behind the attacker, and upon being reminded that the penalty for murder in the state of Utah, where the attack took place, is death, he said, "I hope he gets the death penalty. Charlie Kirk was a good person; he didn't deserve this." Trump added, "I hope this terrible murder receives the necessary punishment."
IDENTITY REVEALED
Utah Governor Spencer Cox, who held a press conference on the matter, announced that the suspect arrested in connection with Kirk's assassination is 22-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah.
UNFIRED BULLET SHELLS CAUGHT ATTENTION
Additionally, Cox shared that the suspect left three unfired bullets with writings on their shells in a wooded area near the crime scene, along with a wrapped shotgun.
According to Cox, the first bullet shell had the writing "Hey fascist! Catch this!" The second bullet shell had the name of the Italian protest folk song 'Bella Ciao' (Goodbye Beautiful) on it. Cox reported that the suspect wrote on the third unfired bullet shell, "Whoever reads this is gay. LMO (Laughing My Off)."
CHARLIE KIRK'S MURDER
Charlie Kirk, an activist and social media phenomenon known for his strong support of President Donald Trump in Utah, was shot during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10.
Kirk was targeted by a bullet of unknown origin while he was speaking in an open area. Shortly after the attack, Trump announced on his U.S.-based social media account that Kirk had lost his life.
The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) had shared photos of the suspect, whom they believed to be the person who killed Kirk, and announced that a reward of up to $100,000 would be given to those who help capture the perpetrator.
Kirk, the founder of the non-profit organization Turning Point USA, which promotes conservative ideas to students on university campuses in the U.S., was followed by 5.2 million people on the U.S.-based X social media platform and 7.3 million on the China-based TikTok platform. Kirk was known for his contribution to Trump's success in the 2024 presidential election, thanks to his popularity among young people.
