Due to the heavy rain affecting Izmir, the streets and avenues turned into a lake. While citizens experienced difficult moments, the AK Party Konak District Chairman Mehmet Sait Başdaş shared a video of a citizen fishing on the Kordon. The Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, Cemil Tugay, responded to Başdaş's video, saying, "He gives a fishing rod to one person and records it to create an impression."
The Meteorology 2nd Regional Directorate issued a warning for the weekend in Izmir, and since yesterday afternoon, thunderstorms and heavy rain have affected the city. While the downpour negatively impacted daily life, familiar scenes emerged once again. The streets and avenues in the city quickly turned into lakes. Drivers struggled to navigate through traffic with their vehicles. Similar scenes to those of the previous day were experienced, especially in Buca and Bayraklı. In some areas, traffic came to a standstill. There were disruptions in the Çiğli Tramway service. Due to the heavy rainfall, the Çiğli Tramway temporarily ceased operations. Services along the tram line continued with the support of ESHOT. Authorities reported that the rainfall would continue until Tuesday.
AK PARTY MAYOR SHARED A VIDEO WITH A FISHING ROD
After the heavy rain that affected Izmir today, AK Party Konak District Chairman Mehmet Sait Başdaş published a video criticizing the flooding and showing a citizen fishing on the Kordon.
CEMIL TUGAY RESPONDED
Following Başdaş's post, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay shared the background of Başdaş's video. In the video shared by Tugay, it was seen that İZSU teams were working while Başdaş was filming.
"HE GIVES A FISHING ROD TO A PERSON, RECORDING TO CREATE AN IMPRESSION"
Cemil Tugay, in a statement made alongside the video, said, "It has been raining heavily in Izmir for days. Our teams are working tirelessly to solve the problems that have arisen. Meanwhile, look at how the AKP Konak District Chairman is trying to defame Izmir. He gives a fishing rod to a person and records it to create an impression. In the background, İZSU teams are working. It's a shame.. On behalf of the people of this city, I commend you to God on behalf of the thousands of workers who are diligently serving on the ground."
