An incredible incident occurred on Thursday, September 11, around 08:30 at the entrance of the Kasımpaşa-Hasköy Tunnel in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. According to the information obtained, a man entered the narrow area next to the tunnel entrance for an unknown reason. The person who proceeded from there then went behind a wall that was 15 meters long.
TRAPPED BETWEEN THE WALL FOR DAYS
It was reported that the man, who was learned to have been trapped inside for days, started to scream when he could not get out. At that moment, a passerby walking on the sidewalk heard the sounds. Upon the notification, police, medical, fire, and UMKE teams were dispatched to the scene. The teams, who arrived at the scene shortly, first broke a section of the wall where the sound was coming from. When the trapped man did not come to the opened section, the teams conducted a follow-up along the wall. It was determined that the man had entered from the narrow area at the tunnel entrance.
TEAMS BROKE THE WALL WITH A MALLET
Upon this, the police from the Beyoğlu Patrol Teams entered through the narrow area and went behind the wall. The police teams that reached the trapped person saw that the man was half-naked, exhausted, and had wounds on various parts of his body. However, the man inside could not be brought out due to his exhaustion and the narrowness of the area. To extract the person from where he was located, the fire department teams began to drill through the wall with a hammer drill. After drilling through the approximately 15-centimeter-thick wall for a while, the fire department team, which then worked with a concrete cutting tool, also cut the rebar and broke the wall with a mallet.
RESCUED WITH A 6-HOUR OPERATION
The police from the Beyoğlu Patrol Teams, who entered through the opened section, reached the man and helped him out from where he was. The man, who was first fitted with a neck brace, was placed on a stretcher and taken to the ambulance. He was then taken to Okmeydanı Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşçıoğlu City Hospital for treatment. The 6-hour operation was captured second by second by DHA cameras, while the police launched an investigation into the incident.
LIVED ON THE STREET AFTER LOSING HIS PASSPORT
On the other hand, after the work of the police and fire teams, the man who was rescued and taken to the hospital was interviewed with the help of a translator. In the interview, it was determined that the man was Caires Ferraiera (45), a Portuguese national. It was learned that Ferraiera arrived at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport from his country in August and then moved to Istanbul, during which time he lost his passport. It was found out that Ferraiera, thinking that the consulate was in Kasımpaşa to obtain a new passport, came here and started living on the street.
ENTERED THE TUNNEL TO SLEEP
It was learned that Ferraiera, who was sleepless, took refuge in that tunnel to rest, but later could not get out from where he was. After completing his procedures at the hospital, Ferraiera was handed over to the Removal Center after his procedures at the police station.
